How can you get ahead this Winter Break? Find out how today!
Many high school students wait for Winter Break long before the Fall Semester even begins! With the holidays and a break from schoolwork to look forward to, it’s not hard to imagine why.
Two weeks or more to enjoy socially distanced time with friends and family and take a break from the monotonous high school class schedule gives students the chance to kick back and relax for a bit.
With the holiday season just a few short weeks away, students can also take the time to plan out how they want to make the most of their winter break! High school seniors who will be receiving their high school diplomas at the end of the academic school year are likely going to want to take advantage of the winter break in order to wrap up their college applications. High school juniors, sophomore and freshmen may even want to start getting ahead on some of their yearlong tasks.
You’ll have something to work on and get ahead on no matter what year of highs school you are in!
Let’s go through a quick list of things that you can do to get ahead during your winter break.
Begin preparing for exams.
Winter break will pass by in the blink of an eye and the Spring 2021 semester immediately follows it! The Spring Semester brings April showers, May flowers, and EXAMS AND PROJECTS!
High schoolers will be neck deep in final exams, final projects and even AP/SAT exams during the rest of the school year.
Students can use the winter break time to start reviewing information from the first semester so they can be better prepared when the spring semester is underway.
Study for the SAT or the ACT.
Without their regular class schedule, students can use the winter break to take as many practice tests at home for the SAT or ACT! Practice tests, when done correctly, are incredibly time consuming. Using free time during the winter holidays will help students prepare for these standardized test exams.
Think about volunteering during the break!
Highs school students can also use the winter break to work volunteer service hours, respecting all recommended hygiene practices and any local/national/federal government mandated social distancing or physical distancing guidelines.
Clocking in more volunteer hours on your resume can help your future college applications stand out.
Take time to research and maybe even visit prospective colleges!
If you are thinking about applying to college, winter break presents a great opportunity for you to take some time and find out more about prospective colleges.
Attend virtual info events and take virtual campus tours online. With the COVID-19 pandemic still going on, your safest bet may be to take advantage of any online information session resources.
If it is possible for you to visit a nearby college campus AND use good hygiene practices and comply with any local, state, or national mandates for social and physical distancing, then go for it!

Don’t forget to actually take a break!
The free time you have during winter break can be used to get ahead but don’t forget to actually use the break to, you know, take a break!!!
Relaxing and spending socially and physically distanced time with friends and family can help give you the reset you need to be able to come back to the spring semester with full energy!
